Functional Fitness Training Course
Becoming a new coach for a group fitness facility can be intimidating and overwhelming. There are so many things that a new coach needs to be informed of, in order to be truly successful in the field. I worked with a new gym owner to create this Foundational Fitness Movements training module for her staff. Many of her coaches were already aware of the core movements, and with the help of the module, they were able to learn the modifications to complete the updated movements. However, she needed a formal training in order to take her staff to the next level and streamline the process for new coaches.
Pre-Test
Before kicking of the course I asked the coaches to take a quick google form “pre test” to asses their prior knowledge and get a quick checkpoint. This quiz has basic movement standards, expectations, and coaching cues that should be used during class time. I created the pre-test so that it would be graded but would not tell the coach the correct answer.
Fitness Course
I worked closely with the SME’s and stakeholders to determine essential movements that needed to be explicitly taught to the staff. Many of the employees already have formal training in the field and just needed a refresher course. I took the movements and their explanations, and created a storyboard to organize the ideas and information into a digestible format. Upon approval, I created the training in Powerpoint using the information provided. I turned videos of the movements into GIF’s which run on a loop on each slide to help to convey the movement in a visual format as well.
Post Test
The post test was given upon completion of the training. The test was automatically graded and the correct answers were given to the coaches to ensure that the content was learned. Upon completion of the post-test the gym owner decided that no further training was required at this time. She was given access to all of the content so that she could use this module for any future employees who may need the training.
